The Adige (Italian pronunciation: [ˈaːdidʒe]) is a river with its source in the Alpine province of South Tyrol near the Italian border with Austria and Switzerland. At 410 kilometres (250 mi) in length, it is the second longest river in Italy, after the River Po with 652 kilometres (405 mi).

  • Pisanello's Madonna della Quaglia (Madonna of the quail), in the Castelvecchio Museum, Verona, Italy. Pisanello (c. 1395 – c. 1455), known professionally as Antonio di Puccio Pisano or Antonio di Puccio da Cereto, also erroneously called Vittore Pisano by Giorgio Vasari, was one of the most distinguished painters of the early Italian Renaissance and Quattrocento. <br /> <br /> The painting depicts the Madonna with Child crowned by two flying angels, sitting inside a rose garden in typical late Gothic style. The painter put a great attention in the representation of vegetables and birds, including the quail in the foreground, which gives its name to the painting. The heavenly appearance of the scene is enhanced by the gilt background.<br /> <br /> The rendering of the Madonna and her clothes resemble those of the works by Gentile da Fabriano, whose workshop Pisanello was a member of at the time.   • Bonsignori, Francesco (1455-1519) - Virgin with Child - Renaissance (Early Italian, "Quattrocento") - Museo di Castelvecchio - Verona, Italy
  • Portrait of a Child with a Drawing, by Giovanni Francesco Caroto (1480 – 1555 or 1558), an Italian painter of the Renaissance active mainly in his native city of Verona. <br /> <br /> In the official museum website there is the following description: "John with Drawing of a Clown by Francesco Caroto (Verona, 1480 - circa 1555). It is a portrait, remarkable for the presence of the childlike drawing, that documents the influence on Caroto of Leonardesque works seen during his stays in Milan."<br /> <br /> He initially apprenticed under Liberale da Verona (1445-1526/1529), a conservative painter infused with the style of Mantegna. Caroto after a stay in Milan, began responding to the other influences from Francesco Bonsignori, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, and Giulio Romano; but he never lost a certain individuality and his rich Veronese color. He is perhaps best known for having trained, along with the younger Antonio Badile, the prominent Mannerist painter, Paolo Veronese, who was active mainly in Venice.
