My first "real" camera was an old Zeiss 35mm rangefinder purchased on a family trip to West Berlin in 1970. Later, my father (a chemist) built a darkroom in the basement, and my brothers and I learned to process film and expose prints under his supervision. I took photos for the high school newspaper and local Martinsville Bulletin, and honed my darkroom skills. I purchased one of the first Olympus OM-1 cameras (circa 1974), which was small and perfect for backpacking trips, and have used Olympus SLR's exclusively ever since (we have owned OM-1, OM-2N, E-1, E-300, E-520 and E-620).
It's now the digital age, and I find myself learning photoshop tricks from my sons, Ryan and Brendan. Ryan is blessed with a gift for graphic design and woodworking, which is reflected in galleries on this site. Brendan has a talent for photography (he was photo editor for his high school yearbook - check out his galleries).
My family is lucky to be living in one of the most creative cities in the country, Austin, Texas. Austin, the "live music capital of the world", is home to countless musicians, including Willie Nelson, Fastball, Bob Schneider, Patty Griffin, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Slaid Cleaves, Kelly Willis, the Dixie Chicks, Paul Glasse, Eric Johnson (I could go on). It's also home to the University of Texas, the Austin City Limits PBS show and annual music festival, SXSW, Lance Armstrong and "Livestrong", 6th Street, "Keep Austin Wierd, and the most gorgeous spreads of wildflowers on the planet (thanks to Lady Bird Johnson). In other words, a photographer's paradise.
This web site reflects the creative output of Sean, Ryan and Brendan. Most of the photos you see on this site can be purchased and are delivered directly to your door (thanks to clever folks at smugmug).
The lacrosse photographs of the Westwood High School Team were taken when my son Brendan played. It is a club sport and I was heavily involved as a parent. Brendan was a talented "midfielder", was co-captain of the varsity squad and named to the "Top 99" in the state in his junior year and the All-District squad in his senior year. (Not surprisingly, lacrosse is the fastest growing youth sport in the country.)
